The following are organizations within Moon Township that provide business assistance, support, and loans to companies or organizations looking to operate in Moon Township.
Moon Transportation Authority
Established in 1987 to promote infrastructure and economic development in Moon Township. Since its inception, the MTA has financed and constructed three new interchanges and several connector roads along Business Route 60. Each project has enhanced the transportation network in Moon Township and opened hundreds of acres of land for development.
As seen with the Cherrington Parkway Extension project, the MTA can serve as a partner to local developers interested in Moon Township. In collaboration with the Allegheny County Airport Authority and DiCicco Development, the MTA advanced a $14 million development project utilizing several sources of funds. The Cherrington Parkway Extension project alone attracted over $8 million in state public funding.
The Moon Transportation Authority can be used as a resource to attract public funding for any development project along Business Route 60 in Moon Township. With its economic development consultants and special counsel, the MTA is well versed in the public funding arena. Moon Industrial Development Authority
Created in 1980 by the Moon Township Board of Supervisors, the Moon Industrial Development Authority is a local organization that provides tax-exempt financing for the construction of qualifying projects. Because the interest on loans obtained through MIDA is exempt from both federal and state income taxes, the organization is able to pass lower interest costs on to applicants. The types of projects MIDA is able to finance include industrial plants and the machinery and equipment necessary for operation, solid waste facilities and facilities owned and operated through 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporations. The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development must also approve all projects that are approved by MIDA.
